Former Daily Sport editor Murray Morse has been appointed as the new editor of the Irish Post.
Morse, 52, has spent the past 33 years working on regional and national newspapers across the UK.
The former editor-in-chief of the Daily Sport and Sunday Sport said the Irish Post has a 'long and proud tradition as the ‘Voice of the Irish in Britain'", adding: 'I am very proud to be leading it into a new era after the title was rescued by Elgin Loane last year".
'What excites me is that both Elgin and chief executive Niamh Kelly have plans to grow and develop the title,'he added.
'It's a tough time for the newspaper industry generally, but I think that with its talented and enthusiastic team, the Irish Post has the potential to be a beacon of what is good and exciting about newspapers."
Morse was editor of the Daily Sport from July 2008 to April 2011.
Before that he was the editor of the Cambridge Evening News between 2004 and 2008.
Morse also worked in Wales as the assistant editor of the South Wales Argus, before moving to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle as deputy editor and then acting editor.
He was news editor of the Daily Record at the time of the Dunblane School massacre in 1996 and is also a former news editor of the Belfast Telegraph.
The Irish Post had a circulation of around 18,000 when it went into liquidation in August 2011. It returned to newsstands eight weeks later last October after being bought by Elgin Loane.
