Irish Daily Star deputy editor Michael O'Kane has been appointed the paper's new editor.
Dublin native O'Kane, 44, joined the Star as news editor in 2002 from Irish broadcaster RTE and began his career at the Irish Press in 1990.
He moved to RTE in 1992 and worked with the station for ten years.
He was attached to RTE's Belfast Bureau and during his four years there he covered the ongoing loyalist and republican violence including the murder of LVF boss Billy Wright and standoffs at Drumcree.
O'Kane also covered the talks leading to the historic Good Friday Agreement in 1998 before moving to London, where he covered stories including the Concorde crash in Paris.
In 2007 he was promoted to deputy editor at the Star.
'The Star newspaper attracts a huge readership and support right across Ireland and I'm very pleased to lead a team of completely committed journalists,'said O'Kane.
'We are determined to produce, day-in and day-out, the best newspaper in the country and we are entirely devoted to the interests of our readers and advertisers,'he added.
O'Kane succeeds Ger Colleran who has been appointed managing director of the Star.
