Dennis Publishing has announced the appointment of Michael Donlevy as the new editor of Maxim, replacing Derek Harbinson who left the magazine last week.
He joins Maxim from his current role at Dennis Publishing as deputy editor of Men’s Fitness and will start his new job early next month.
Donlevy joined Dennis in 1995 as part of the Microscope team before moving on to become chief sub-editor of Maxim until 2001. After a period freelancing he returned to Dennis Publishing in 2004.
Announcing the appointment, Dennis Publishing said: “Michael will be focusing on evaluating the current direction of Maxim and developing a more service-led magazine. He will also oversee the rapidly expanding Maxim website, which saw a 29.6 per cent rise for the period and 72.5 per cent for the year in August taking it to 851,739 monthly unique users.”
Donlevy said: ‘The mass market men’s market has changed enormously in the past few years, and men have access to the internet and mobile content that didn’t exist in 1997.
“Maxim offers its readers fantastic digital content and I want Maxim magazine to offer more than you can find in any other mass market men’s monthly or weekly magazine.”
Dennis has also announced that Pete Muir, currently editor of Men’s Fitness, has been promoted to editorial director across both Maxim and Men’s Fitness, and has accepted a place on the Dennis Lifestyle board.
