It was nice to see a letter from Eric Price (Press Gazette, 8 July),
a wellrespected Western Daily Press editor when I first started working
for the Bristol United Press in the latter part of the 1960s.
However, I cannot imagine Eric Price reporting to another editor, as Terry Manners will have to.
Mike
Lowe has it right; he’s sussed that it will only be a matter of time
before the Western Daily Press amalgamates with the Evening Post and
the identity of both papers is lost.
Unfortunately, the rot set in when Northcliffe was able to take over the Bristol United Press.
When
the stalwarts of the Evening Post and Western Daily Press died, it was
only a matter of time before the bean counters moved in.
However, my association with Bristol United Press (1966 to 2005)n gives me many happy memories.
