Northcliffe Media has relaunched its sports websites in north-east England to coincide with the start of the football season.
The regional publishing wing of Daily Mail & General Trust has overhauled sites serving the towns of Hull, Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Lincoln.
The publisher has moved the sites: sporthull.co.uk, sportgrimsby.co.uk, sportscunny.co.uk and sportsecho.co.uk, to its group web publishing platform to standardise back-of-house systems across all local titles.
In addition to updating the appearance, features and functionality of all sites, Sporthull.co.uk will see the introduction of a videos section dedicated to its premier league football and rugby league teams, running commentary and interaction on live games, sports highlights through an embedded Virgin Media player and aggregation to related stories on the web.
John Meehan, Northcliffe North East editorial director and editor of the Hull Daily Mail, said: “All of these new features enhance the service we give to web users and further differentiate our digital offering from our in-depth and analytical sports coverage in the paper.
“We will also use the sports sites to promote our print-only sports content.”
This regional revamp follows the high profile launch last week, by the Daily Mirror, of a dedicated football website; mirrorfootball.co.uk.
