In recent years women have been in the majority of trainee journalists, but they are still under-represented at the top of journalism.
One only has to look around the room at the Society of Editors conference to see that the vast majority of editors across the journalism industry are still men.
To find out why this is, and talk about what can be done about it, three leading female editors will be speaking at City University London on 16 November from 6pm.
They will be revealing how they got to the top in journalism and providing advice to ambitious female journalists about how they can do the same.
The speakers for Smashing the Glass Ceiling are:
-
Eleanor Mills (pictured) – Editorial director of the Sunday Times, editor of The Sunday Times Magazine
-
Alison Phillips – Weekend editor of the Mirror, in charge of the Saturday and Sunday editions
- Cristina Nicolotti Squires – editor of 5 News for ITN.
The panel discussion will be chaired by Georgia Edkins, President of City University Feminist Society and the event is organised by City University Journalism Department in association with Press Gazette. It will be followed by networking drinks.
