Northcliffe’s new group managing director Steve Auckland has announced some changes to the company’s management structure as part of a “long-term strategy to improve performance”.
The group’s three main newspaper centres – Bristol, Hull and Nottingham – will appoint a publisher. This job replaces those of regional editor and MD, although Northcliffe says no one is likely to lose their job.
The company said: “These roles will have full profit and loss accountability, and responsibility for the publishing model, pricing structure and staffing for their centres. The positions will be advertised nationally.
“It is envisaged that these changes will be phased over the next few months once the appointments have been made.
“The restructure is the first phase of a long-term strategy to improve the performance of Northcliffe Media.”
Steve Auckland joined Northcliffe last month from DMGT’s free paper Metro, where he was managing director. He replaces Michael Pelosi, who has retired.
