Evening Chronicle editor Paul Robertson is standing down after 22 years working across Trinity Mirror‘s titles in the North East.
During his time with the group he worked on all the company’s major titles in the region and edited both the Evening Gazette and the Evening Chronicle.
News of his departure comes a month after the company announced the loss of up to 11 journalism jobs at the Evening Chronicle, which recently switched to early morning publication.
“Having project managed the recent change in the Chronicle publishing schedule, I think it’s now the right time for me to seek a fresh challenge,’said Robertson, who leaves on 5 August.
‘The team in the North East is outstanding and I would like to thank them all for their support.
‘I will miss the place but most of all the people I have worked with, many of whom are friends as well as colleagues.”
Regional managing director Bob Cuffe said: ‘Paul has been a passionate ambassador for our business – he’s been a positive influence across the region, and proud of the newspapers he’s worked on.
‘Alongside his editorial skills, Paul’s always been very commercially aware, always eager to support his commercial colleagues. We wish him all the best in the future. Paul will be a tough act to follow, and I’ll be working on the future editorial structure in the weeks ahead.”
According to the most recent ABC figures the Newcastle Chronicle had an average daily circulation of 54,874 in the second half of 2010, down 9.4 per cent year on year.
