Catherine Ostler, editor of the London Evening Standard’s ES magazine, has been appointed editor of society magazine Tatler – the title she started her career on.
Ostler replaces Geordie Greig, who will become Evening Standard editor later this month following its acquisition by Russian billionaire Alexander Lebedev.
Ostler said: ‘I am thrilled to be taking on this role.
“I started my career on Tatler and many of my journalistic heroes have been through its doors. It holds a unique position in British journalism and it is a particular privilege to become the editor of the magazine as it goes into its 300th anniversary year.”
Nicholas Coleridge, managing director of Condé Nast, said: “She is an editor of considerable experience and perfect for Tatler.”
Ostler started her career at Tatler, became features writer on the Mail on Sunday from 1994 to 1996, before editing the Daily Express Saturday magazine.
She edited The Times Weekend section, before becoming editor of celebrity gossip website peoplenews.com, and then rejoined Associated Newspapers as a Daily Mail features writer.
Ostler moved to the Evening Standard in October 2002 as editor of ES Magazine. Ostler’s husband, Albert Read, is a former journalist and now UK general manager of Condé Nast – which publishes Tatler.
