A month after launching its Saturday compact edition, The Scotsman will tidy up the new format this weekend by changing the broadsheet section The Weekend into a compact magazine called Critique.
The magazine will be given over entirely to modern lifestyle, and will include from this Saturday a 12-page travel section.
Sales to 20 March had risen to an estimated 89,500 compared with 74,386 the week before the compact was introduced – an increase of 21 per cent.
Readers have been encouraged to give their views on the Saturday edition by a number of methods.
The paper reported: “The response has been overwhelming and some 1,800 readers have taken the time and trouble to contact us.
“We have concluded that 75 per cent of readers who responded have welcomed the Saturday compact and are satisfied that it has lived up to or exceeded expectations by maintaining its authority and quality.”
Readers who preferred the broadsheet format have been contacted individually.
