NRS figures say Sun is the most read UK newspaper in print and online

By Dominic Ponsford

New combined print and online readership figures suggest that The Sun remains the best-read newspaper in the UK.

The National Readership Survey has combined survey-based print readership data with Comscore website figures to provide an overall estimate for the weekly readership of various national newspapers and magazines.

Year on year comparisons are not available because of changes in the way the data is compiled.

The print readership is for the year to March 2013 (and based on a nationwide survey rather than on actual circulation), while the website readership is for March 2013. The combined print and online total is described as a net figure (so de-duplicated).

The NRS estimates the combined weekly readership of The Sun across seven days at 13.6m in print and online versus a total weekly UK readership of the 12.2m for the Mail titles and Mail Online.

Metro is in third place, according to NRS (with 8m readers a week) followed by the Mirror Group titles on 5.3m and The Guardian/Observer on 5.3m.
