Essex awards

Basildon Evening Echo crime reporter Carl Eve has been named the 2003 Shepherd Neame Essex Journalist of the Year for his “brilliant” coverage of the Danielle Jones murder trial.

Gary Pearson, also of the Evening Echo, won the Essex Campaign of the Year title for his “Fair Deal for Our Sick Children” crusade, demanding more cash for a local children’s hospice.

Spitfire Sports Journalist of the Year was Glenn Speller of BBC Essex and Young Journalist of the Year was Grant Sherlock of the Ilford Recorder.
