The News of the World’s Hayley Barlow has become the first woman to win the Press Golfing Society’s annual trophy in the club’s centenary year.
Barlow, who runs NoW publicity, beat her colleague, deputy sports editor Tim Allan, by two holes on the 35th hole of out a possible 36 at Wentworth Golf Club. The PGS was founded by the paper’s editor/chairman Emsley Carr and the competition was open to all members.
Barlow said: “I’m so proud to be the first woman to win the Emsley Carr cup and to bring it back to the News of the World where it belongs.”
Barlow’s best round at Wentworth was 75 – or three over par.
