VNU looks to offload Euro mags

By Press Gazette

VNU may sell off its magazines business in Europe, it has announced.

The Netherlands-based business-tobusiness publisher is considering the move as it explores “strategic alternatives” for its Business Media Europe (BME) group.

BME is a business-to-business media company across Europe. Its British titles include Accountancy Age, Computing and consumer title ComputerActive.

Despite the success of the business in moving into the digital arena, with online media currently generating 25 per cent of advertising revenues, the company said it was considering a sale “because the group’s activities are not well aligned with VNU’s marketing information and media measurement businesses”.

It added that its US-based Business Information Group will not be part of a potential sale.

Meanwhile, the UK division has made two new appointments at VNU’s on air team, which is responsible for the company’s internet broadcasting service.

Hilton Freund has been appointed as head of audio and video for VNU’s on air studios, responsible for all scheduling and production activities.

Paul Rowlingson, who has been appointed studio producer, reporting to Freund, will be responsible for the management of the audio and video platforms used within the studio, and for developing technical knowledge.
