The 2007 Picture Editors’ Awards were presented in London by veteran war photographer Horst Faas on 20 June.
Cathal McNaughton of the Press Association picked up the top prize of Fujifilm Photographer of the Year and made a hat trick with Olympus Royal Photographer of the Year for his picture of the Queen at Roehampton and Olympus Nature and Environment prize. Also from PA, Rebecca Naden won the Action Images Sports Picture of the Year Award and Martin Rickett was named Action Images UK & Ireland News Photographer of the Year.
The title of Getty Images Newspaper of the Year went jointly to The Sunday Herald and The Guardian, with the Sunday Herald Magazine also picking up Getty Images Newspaper Magazine of the Year.
Awards recognising the contribution of electronic publishing were made for the first time – BBC News was named Website of the Year; The Sun and the Newbury Weekly News were jointly awarded Newspaper Website of the Year title.
David Shopland from The Mail on Sunday won the Action Images Sports Photographer of the Year Award, and Peter Nicholls was named picturehouse Photo Essay Photographer of the Year for his work in Lebanon.
Getty Images’ Julian Finney was named the City of London Young Photographer of the Year, and Daniel Berehulak, also of Getty Images, won Fujifilm Foreign News Photographer of the Year.
Mark Waugh of the Manchester Evening News took the Fujifilm Regional Newspapers Photographer of the Year award. Irish freelance Eamon Ward took the Fujifilm Local Newspapers Photographer of the Year award for his work for the Clare People.
Harry Borden, represented by the Bonakdar Cleary agency, took the picturehouse Portrait Photographer of the Year Award for a striking image of Baroness Thatcher.
