Mail on Sunday news editor Paul Field has been recruited to run The Sun’s news desk by editor Rebekah Wade, writes Jean Morgan.
He will join the News International daily at the end of June as associate editor (news).
Graham Dudman, who currently heads The Sun’s news operation, becomes assistant editor (features). Sam Carlisle, whose role he takes over, is on compassionate leave.
Field, who trained with MGN, went to The Mail on Sunday from the Sunday Mirror, where he was news editor, in 2000. He had previously been deputy news editor of the Sunday People.
Wade is particularly pleased to have persuaded Field to go to her newspaper. Recent Fleet Street rumours have put him in the wanted list for a number of high-level executive jobs. Sun insiders believe it will not be long before he is on the paper’s editing rota.
“I’ve heard great things about Paul and he will strengthen the news team here,” she said.
The Sun’s news editor, Sue Thompson, returns from maternity leave next week.
