Journalism student Gary Mitchell has won a Leicester Mercury award
for offdiary reporting just weeks after getting a job at the paper.
Mitchell
was named district reporter of the year for Leicester De Montfort
University’s postgraduate journalism course, winning a £100 prize from
the city’s evening paper.
John Dilley, senior lecturer at the
university, said: “It was fantastic for Gary to get a job while still
on the course and it’s a testament to his commitment that he’s
combining newsroom work while studying for his exams.”
Rowen West-Henzell also received an award for the one to watch.
