Star on course

By Press Gazette

The Irish Star is on course to launch its Sunday tabloid on 5 October with an initial print run of 100,000.

Irish Star editor Ger Colleran will also edit the Sunday title and Star news editor Bernard Phelan will be moving to the Sunday.

According to managing director Paul Cooke, the Sunday newspaper will have what he called the “same news-driven agenda” as the daily, which currently has strong sales in the Republic -more than 108,000 copies a day.

Cooke speculated that the new title would primarily take readers from the Sunday World. Among staff already recruited for the new Sunday are news reporters John Mooney and Ken Fox and sports journalist Cathal Dervan.
