Scotland on Sunday is helping to preserve the Gaelic language by launching a weekly column by political correspondent Murdo MacLeod.
Although various newspapers, including The Scotsman, the Aberdeen Press and Journal, West Highland Free Press, Stornoway Gazette, Inverness Courier and Scottish Catholic Observer carry Gaelic material each week, SoS has taken the process a step further by offering a prŽcis in English in the paper and a full English transcript at www.scotlandonsunday.com.
Editor John McLellan said: “A recent census revealed the number of Gaelic speakers in Scotland had dropped to 60,000, so I thought Scotland on Sunday should do its bit to help.”
