Etchingham: new face for Five
ulie Etchingham will join Kirsty Young as a presenter of Five News when Sky News takes over production of the bulletins, writes Caitlin Pike.
Etchingham, the anchor on Sky News Today , will be the face of the 5.30pm bulletin on Thursdays and Fridays, while Kirsty Young will present Monday to Wednesday.
Sky News takes over news service production for Five on 3 January 2005 after winning the contract from ITN.
Along with Etchingham, the BBC’s Kate Sanderson and Sangita Myska will join Young and Charlie Stayt.
Etchingham recently co-anchored the US presidential election coverage with Jeremy Thompson in Washington and will continue to present Today between 10amand 1pm.
Five News editor Mark Calvert said: “The new presenter line-up for Five News will deliver a great mix that we think will prove irresistible to viewers.
Kirsty Young is synonymous with Five News and these appointments complement her perfectly.”
The 7pm bulletin, which will be cut to 15 minutes in January, will be presented by Kate Sanderson on Thursday and Friday. Sanderson, who has been with the BBC since 1997, will also present hourly updates between 8pm and 10pm, as well as weekend bulletins. Sangita Myska also joins Five from the BBC
