An exhibition of more than 120 photographs by Liverpool Post and Daily Echo picture editor Stephen Shakeshaft has attracted nearly 4,000 visitors in its first two weeks.
Shooting Stars, held in Liverpool’s Conservation Centre and opened by comedian Ken Dodd, includes portraits of The Beatles, Marlene Dietrich, Kylie Minogue and the Princess of Wales.
Shakeshaft said: “I am pleased that that the centre is recognising press photography and I am delighted that so many people are coming to see the exhibition. The Liverpool museums are forward thinking and recognise that newspaper photographs are not just for use in papers, but that they are in their own way a form of art.”
It follows an exhibition at the end of 2001, Soccer Shots, which presented more than 100 of Shakeshaft’s football pictures in the Museum of Liverpool Life.
A third exhibition showcasing Shakeshaft’s portraits of the people of Liverpool is planned. The current exhibition is open until 28 September.
