RTE has launched a daily television service aimed specifically at seven- to 12-year-olds.
Transmitted on the station’s second channel, Network 2, the eight- to 10-minute slot is being broadcast at 5pm daily. The programme has been established in partnership with an Irish state agency which aims to give a voice to children. The National Children’s Office has contributed one-off funding of E200,000 (£132,000) towards the venture, which will initially run for a year.
Project manager Mary Butler, a newsroom television editor, said that as well as live interviews and film packages, the programme would include a story of the day rescripted from the day’s main news output.
