Publisher Regal Star Promotions is planning to launch two magazines, including a music title aimed at a new generation of jazz fans. Bluenote is due out in August and a hair magazine called Definition will launch in July.
Bluenote is expected to cash in on the recent popularity of jazz, sparked by modern day artists such as Jamie Cullum. The 116-page A4 glossy will be published bimonthly and target 25 to 35-year-olds. It will have a print run of 50,000 and sales target of 30,000.
Publisher Michelle Roberts said: “Jazz is becoming more popular. There is an increasing number of jazz cafes opening up and for us it’s an opportunity to capture a niche market. There are only two other main jazz titles around and with Jools Holland and Jamie Cullum becoming increasingly popular, there is a big audience for it.”
Definition will target “style gurus” who find the current hair titles too old fashioned. “The titles on the newsstands seem very old fashioned and retro and they have very much a Seventies feel to them. What we are trying to do is to bring hair styling into modern day society,” Roberts said.
Definition will appear bimonthly with a print run of 50,000 and sales target of 40,000.
Roberts is in the process of recruiting journalists for both launches, including an editor and designer for Bluenote and a features editor and fashion editor for Definition.
