Real prospects for new jobs

By Press Gazette

The new owners of women’s fortnightly glossy magazine, Real, are looking for an editorial team of 20 staff, ahead of fresh investment in the title, including extra pages, writes Ruth Addicott.

Essential Publishing bought Real from Bauer last week, after it was suspended earlier this month due to commercial pressures.

The move left most of the team redundant and unable to join the new company, which is based in Colchester.

Real was previously located in Camden, North London.

Essential Publishing’s managing director, Luke Patten, said that he was currently in talks with some of the former staff.

He is looking for journalists to head the features, fashion, health and beauty sections, and he is also seeking stylists, sub-editors and designers.

Gail Major, former editor of Essential title Essential Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom magazine, has been appointed editor.

Patten said he plans to expand the title from its current pagination of 100 to 116 pages, with greater emphasis and coverage of subjects such as food and travel.
