The editor of Hotel and Restaurant has resigned after bosses discovered he was launching a rival publication, Foodservice Forum .
Matthew Moggridge quit Quantum Business Media late last month as the first edition of Foodservice Forum hit the presses.
Moggridge said launched the title independently after becoming unhappy with the way Hotel and Restaurant was being run.
He said: “I said ‘why don’t we cross-sell Foodservice Forum with Hotel and Restaurant ‘, but I was told there would be a conflict of interest. They wanted me to scrap the project, which would have put me in a difficult position.”
Moggridge said his parting with Quantum had been “totally amicable”.
Quantum CEO Neil Thackray said: “Matt’s launch of his own magazine was incompatible with his position as editor of Hotel and Restaurant magazine. We now plan to recruit a new editor who will devote 100 per cent of their effort and talents to the future growth and development of the magazine.”
Foodservice Forum is a 68-page free quarterly, sent out to targeted senior level readers in the food service industry. It has a print run of 3,000.
Hotel & Restaurant has a controlled monthly circulation of more than 17,000.
