NUJ members have twice lobbied BBC management over the sacking of two senior World Service producers.
The first saw journalists lobby Claridge’s Hotel for an address by BBC director general Greg Dyke to the Intellect Society.
The second saw journalists rally outside the Bush House headquarters where the two men Adli Hawwari and Abdul-Hadi Jiad used to work.
The events were part of the “Take Them Back” campaign launched to win the reinstatement of Hawwari and Jiad, who in February were summarily dismissed after a series of claims of racial discrimination they had brought to Employment Tribunals. The BBC said there was “a complete breakdown of trust”.
The NUJ demanded their reinstatement and said the BBC had broken its own disciplinary procedures.
The BBC has agreed to a national conference between managers and the NUJ about the dismissals.
