Journalists at Emap Healthcare were balloted this week as the NUJ tried to win back recognition of the union.
Around 100 journalists were given red carnations by NUJ representatives as they arrived for work at Emap’s Mornington Crescent offices in London on Tuesday.
NUJ national organiser Jeremy Dear said the union made three approaches to Emap management with a view to holding a joint ballot with its co-operation but was "disappointed" with the response.
The union was derecognised by management when Emap bought Macmillan in 1997.
"We had a very good response from staff going in," he said.
"We are confident we will get the right result. We hope that when there’s a clear result in favour of recognition they’ll change their mind and talk to us."
Dear said the NUJ was planning to carry out the same exercise at IPC. "Letters have gone to management and we have not had a positive response so far.
