IPC has closed its dedicated Irish edition of NME, reverting to publishing the UK edition of the music magazine in Ireland. The launch of NME Ireland in October last year was billed as the first ‘international edition’of the magazine and contained a section with eight pages of local news, reviews, interviews and listings contained within the UK edition of the magazine. Content for the Irish edition was provided by its correspondent, Steve Cummins, who left Ireland’s biggest music magazine, Hot Press, to join the project. The launch coincided with the opening of Club NME, the brand’s network clubnights, in Dublin, which are expected to continue. IPC said that Irish acts would still be included in the NME mix, both online and in the weekly magazine. A spokesman said: ‘We are now selling more copies in Ireland than ever. Our research has shown that what the readers of NME Ireland loved most about the product was the NME itself. So we’ll continue with our mix of the most exciting, wittiest and most authoritative coverage of the very best in music.”
