Computing magazine’s news editor, Bryan Glick, is stepping out of the office and into the gym to prepare for this year’s Microsoft Challengers Trophy in aid of the NSPCC.
June will see more than 100 teams from over 50 UK companies compete against each other on the Isle of Wight to help raise an estimated £400,000 for the children’s charity.
Glick had just returned from a sponsored cycling trip to Vietnam, so his colleagues decided that he was probably the fittest one to do it.
Teams taking part in the three-day and four-night event will face a series of top secret challenges, which may include tasks such as canoeing, abseiling, mountain biking and codecracking.
Glick said: “My only fears are having to run long distances and being woken up in the middle of the night and forced to exercise. I can’t even jog to the corner shop.
“I know that some of the teams are taking this really seriously and have already begun rigorous training. We might not be quite so serious but will certainly do our best.
“My efforts so far have been mainly in-depth mental preparation.”
