The Financial Times has appointed Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson as its new media editor.
Edgecliffe-Johnson will oversee the FT’s global media coverage and will manage the London-based media, telecoms and IT teams.
He
joined the paper in 1997 as a UK companies reporter. Since then he has
been a correspondent in New York, a Lex columnist, has edited the
features section and most recently has been deputy news editor. He is a
graduate of Cambridge University and holds an MA in Italian and French.
FT
editor Andrew Gowers said: “Andrew is one of the FT’s most talented
young journalists and the media editor’s job is one of the paper’s most
challenging and exciting roles. I know he will take our media coverage
from strength to strength.”
One of Edgecliffe-Johnson’s first
jobs will be to oversee a shake-up of the fortnightly supplement FT-IT,
which is being relaunched as FT Digital Business.
According to
the FT, the namechange signals a change in approach to the subject of
technology, “to focus more broadly on how global business people can
make technology work for their business, the business of technology,
and global developments in the IT and telecommunications industries”.
