A group of journalists is hoping to crack the contract publishing market in Scotland with the launch of a new venture, Three Mile Media.
The company plans to target the lifestyle and entertainment market, including drinks companies, film and TV firms, clubs and music venues.
Business development director and former motoring correspondent on Business AM Stephen Henry is behind the launch along with editorial director Darren Watts, a former deputy editor on dance music magazine M8.
Henry, who has a background in newspapers, including The Express, Daily Star, Scotsman and The Herald, said: “We had been toying with the idea of moving into contract publishing for a year.
“We want to try to fill the gap in the market. There aren’t many targeted music and lifestyle publications for Edinburgh and Glasgow and with events such as the Edinburgh Festival, it is a hotbed of cultural activity.”
Henry said he was hoping to launch the first title by next summer. The company is currently in talks with a major brewery and Haymarket, with a view to publishing directories related to leisure at the end of this year.
“We want to build up the business and produce a company that doesn’t have any debt and has a good cash-flow, so we can cope with any ups and downs,” he added.
