The Western Mail & Echo group has become the ?rst newspaper publisher in Wales to be able to print every page in colour.
The Prince of Wales opened an £18m plant which is Trinity Mirror’s biggest press investment. Printed at the out-of-town Cardiff Bay site will be The Western Mail, South Wales Echo, Wales on Sunday and the Celtic group of weeklies. The new site replaces a press in the basement of the Western Mail & Echo of?ces at Thomson House in Cardiff. According to Trinity Mirror, the new press facility is one of the most advanced anywhere in the world.
Western Mail & Echo managing director Keith Dye said: “This year marks the commissioning of our new state-of-the-art press facilities enabling us to print every page of all of our newspapers in full colour. “This makes us the only newspaper in Wales to do so, and we join a handful of newspapers in the UK with this capability.
He continued: “The new press has already given us the opportunity to make considerable improvements to all of our titles to the bene?t of both our readers and advertisers. “It has been a crucial element in this year’s redesign and relaunch of the Western Mail.”
