The Mirror claims to have made newspaper history by becoming the first tabloid to produce a pullout broadsheet section of the paper.
Thursday’s edition included a 24-page broadsheet insert, reproducing all the major images of the terrorist assault on America. It was accompanied by a 6,000-word reportage piece from Mirror columnist and author Tony Parsons. Editor Piers Morgan said: "I quite agree with people who say you needed a broadsheet format to get the full impact of these pictures. So I thought, ‘Why can’t we bloody do it?’ These are the most extraordinary news images in all my time as a journalist. I didn’t want our coverage to be hampered by our format."
