Farmers Weekly has recruited Shirley Macmillan as its new livestock reporter.
She will be responsible for all dairy news, keeping everybody up to date on livestock issues as well as some editing both for the title and its monthly supplement Dairy Update.
Previously Macmillan worked as a researcher for the Milk Development Council but found that she “missed writing” and after 18 months applied for the Farmers Weekly position.
For 10 years, she worked on a rival title, CMP Information’s Dairy Farmer, working her way up from trainee reporter to editor. While there she travelled extensively, including a sixmonth job exchange at the New Zealand Dairy Exporter.
On her return she was made redundant when her Ipswich office closed. She freelanced for around six months before applying for her present position.
Macmillan said: “I have really missed being able to find stories on a national level and look forward to working with such a professional company.”
