Laurance lifts health feature writer award

Jeremy Laurance, health editor of The Independent, has been named Consumer Health Feature Writer of the Year in the Guild of Health Writers Awards.

He won for his article “Medical staff quit for the West”. Runner-up was Elizabeth Adlam for an article on curing breast cancer for the Reader’s Digest.

Trade/Specialist Feature winner was Peter Aldhous for “Murder by medicine”, Nature. Runner-up was Emma Forrest for “Inside story – prison healthcare”, Health Service Journal.

Best Young Writer (aged under 25)

was Roxanne Khamsi for “Slim chance”, Intelligent Life.

Best Overall Freelance winner was Carina Dennis for “Deaf by design”, Nature.
