A Hackney Gazette story about a boy put in a bin by a policeman forms part of the new factual TV series from ITV1 called Revenge TV.
Producers of the five one-hour programmes, due to be screened in September, have appealed to regional press journalists to help them find footage shot by members of the public which shows them solving a crime, a mystery — or just getting even.
The Hackney Gazette story came about after a media student spotted a group of boys in an altercation with police and decided to start filming them on his mobile phone.
The producers of Revenge TV have teamed up with Press Gazette to launch a website (www.pressgazette.co.uk /template/itv) which details this and other examples of the type of story or footage they are looking for.
Executive producer Tony Williamson revealed that another story set to feature in the documentary is about a woman whose garden fences kept disappearing.
She rigged up CCTV cameras, only to find that they were being stolen by magpies.
Revenge TV's producers have offered a £200 tip-off for every story sent in by a Press Gazette reader that makes it into the final programme.
