The Guardian has enticed Patrick Barkham back to the newspaper as a reporter after spending two years at The Times. It has also confirmed the appointment of Sandra Laville as a senior reporter.
Barkham first joined The Guardian in 1998 as a reporter on Guardian Unlimited. He became The Times’s Australia correspondent in 2002, reporting on the Olympics and the refugee crisis and in 2003 was sent out to the Gulf.
Laville worked as a reporter on London’s Evening Standard before moving to The Daily Telegraph in 1999. She has covered major international stories for the paper, including the war in Iraq, the refugee crisis in Kosovo and high-profile domestic stories such as the Damilola Taylor murder trial.
Barkham and Laville replace Angelique Chrisafis, who has become Northern Ireland correspondent, and Jeevan Vasagar, who is reporting from Nairobi.
Paul MacInnes has been appointed assistant features editor and Laura Barton has been appointed deputy editor of the women’s page.
