Guardian Newspapers chief executive Carolyn McCall has revealed plans for the company to follow News International and further expand into the US.
Last week Times editor Robert Thomson revealed that his paper was to start publishing a US edition in New York this week, to coincide with the start of the World Cup.
She told delegates at the conference: “Our ambition is to be the leading glob
al liberal voice.” And she has revealed that the company is soon to announce expansion of its US web operation, more US-based staff and development of a print product.
In March, the latest month for which there are ABC electronic figures, Guardian Unlimited registered 12.9 million monthly users, with two-thirds coming from outside the UK.
Most of those outside the UK were from the US.
