By Press Gazette

The Guardian has appointed Severin Carrell as its new Scotland correspondent.

Carrell is currently a senior reporter at The Independent on Sunday. He previously spent nine years working for The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, including a three-year stint as The Scotsman’s first -ever home affairs correspondent. He also spent two years as a lobby correspondent in Westminster.

Carrell said: “I'm delighted to come back to Scotland to take up this prestigious post for the Guardian. It's an exciting and challenging role."

Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger said: “The wealth of experience that Severin will bring to this role demonstrates our commitment to Scottish coverage.”

Severin joins the Guardian in the autumn and will fill the vacancy created by the departure of Gerard Seenan who held the post for nearly eight years.
