Heat Radio, an extension of Emap’s weekly celebrity gossip magazine, relaunched this week with live showbiz news bulletins that aim beat the red-tops in breaking celebrity news.
The half-hourly bulletins, mixed in with music and chat, are produced by broadcast journalists working closely with Heat journalists –?who already produce content for the magazine and website heatworld.com. The radio studio is located in the Heat offices, allowing the teams to work closely together.
Heat editor Mark Frith will oversee the editorial tone and style of the station and news editor Hannah Perry will set the celebrity news agenda.
Lucie Cave, features editor, will dedicate 50 per cent of her time to the radio station, and she and stylist Bronagh Meere will host a weekly style and fashion show.
Andria Vidler, managing director of Magic 105.4 FM, who led the Heat Radio launch at Emap, said more magazine journalists will become involved as the station develops: ‘It’s going to evolve, without a doubt.”
Regular features from the magazine will cross over into the live radio shows, and some celebrity interviews for the magazine will be recorded to feature on the radio.
‘It’s integrated, but we don’t want to do exactly the same thing, it has to be adding something new. It is about ensuring the areas are complementary and not duplicating,’Vidler added.
