Luton on Sunday editor and former News of the World reporter Aylia Fox has stepped down “to pursue other interests”.
Fox had been editor of the weekly for two-and-a-half years and had an eventful time in charge of the paper.
In a statement to staff, editorial director Steve Lowe said: “She was very committed to the job of taking the editorial of our Luton and Dunstable titles forward.
“Aylia leaves to pursue other interests and we wish her all the best. This leaves a vacancy for the editor of Luton on Sunday, Dunstable on Sunday and Leighton Buzzard on Sunday.
“This is one of the most important posts in the company and an exciting opportunity to build on the success of these titles and make them indispensable reading for the people of south Bedfordshire.”
Lowe told Press Gazette: “She just wanted a change. She’s got a young daughter of about three and wanted to spend a bit more time with her family and try something different. We parted company on good terms.”
In July Luton on Sunday published a front-page apology after it falsely accused a leading community figure of being sacked after viewing internet pornography.
It also paid him compensation, which was said to have been substantial.
Last year controversial owner of Luton Town football club John Gurney banned Luton on Sunday from the ground after it campaigned for his removal and exposed his colourful past.
