First-person pieces on Reuters

By Press Gazette

Reuters is encouraging its journalists to use the first person more, by writing 600-word "witness pieces".

Newspapers receiving the wire service can use witness pieces in the same way they use news stories. They are flagged up to differentiate them from news.

Reporters pitch ideas for their witness contributions to news editors with at least one a week currently being issued.

Guidelines to staff state that the pieces require the approval of a senior editor to ensure freedom from bias.
