Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court has told Press Gazette that a provisional date has been set for the inquiry into the death of ITN correspondent Terry Lloyd in Iraq.
The announcement comes more than three years after Lloyd (pictured) was shot dead in Iraq while covering the invasion in 2003.
Oxford coroner Nicholas Gardner told Press Gazette: “We are looking at the first week of October there aren’t any more details at present as we are checking on the availability at the moment.”
Lloyd was killed in unclear circumstances while was reporting from the desert along with ITN cameraman Fred Nerac and interpreter Hussein Osman.
The coroner’s announcement comes after months of campaigning in which the NUJ has pressed the Ministry of Defence for a thorough investigation.
ITV News editor-in-chief, David Mannion, said: “Terry Lloyd’s friend’s and family have waited an awfully long time for an inquest and the sooner it happens the better.”
