Former Premiership footballer Stan Collymore has accepted an apology and contribution to legal costs after claiming that the Cannock Chase Post infringed his privacy.
He sued the paper's parent company Trinity Mirror and its editor Mike Lockley over a story published on 24 March 2005, headlined: "Stan and Estelle in homes battle".
The article revealed details — which the paper said it had received from an anonymous source — about properties offered to his then wife in the course of divorce proceedings.
The company has apologised, agreed not to republish the story and made a contribution to Collymore's legal costs. Collymore started High Court proceedings via David Price solicitors for breach of confidence.
He said in a statement: "I am satisfied with Trinity Mirror's proposals to resolve my claim. It was very upsetting to see such details in my local newspaper at a time when I was going through a painful divorce. I am pleased to have put this matter behind me."
