Chronicle unveils advertiser-led relaunch

The North Wales Chronicle had a relaunch with a difference this week.

It was based on research carried out with advertisers rather than readers.

Graham Breeze, editor of the free weekly which has a distribution of 47,452, said the result is “a completely new product, brighter and easier to navigate with modern, eye-catching fonts”.

Breeze said: “To increase our advertisement revenue the research told us we needed to find new ways of supporting advertisers needs. We have introduced advertising platforms tagged ‘Extra’ for house and home, motoring, leisure and careers – heavily supported with local editorial.

“Three editions have been reduced to two and we now produce county specific newspapers for Anglesey and Gwynedd, with as many as 12 pages changed weekly.

“We have also improved the availability of the Chronicle, opening 33 new retail outlets where distribution is difficult and reducing the cover price from 45p to 30p where it is sold.

“We continue to major on local news but will always look for a different slant to the opposition titles within our circulation area.”

The editorial staff has been increased from five to six in order to produce content for the five new sections.
