As speculation continues about the future of the Telegraph Group, Conrad Black, left, has written to staff to reassure them he has “acted properly at all times”, writes Dominic Ponsford.
Black’s “retirement” as chief executive of Hollinger International was announced last week after an internal inquiry found that he and other executives had received unauthorised payments totalling £19m.
Black remains chairman of the Telegraph Group and said in his letter: “I am eager to have every relevant fact disclosed and every question answered. I am confident that I acted properly at all times.
“I strongly support all measures to ensure that Hollinger International has effective corporate governance and that all the concerns that have been raised be satisfactorily resolved.”
One Telegraph insider said: “We’ve had letters saying everything is OK and nothing much is wrong. It’s standard stuff and we’ve heard it all before – no one believes a word of it.
“We’ve had similar communications before and they’ve turned out to be completely untrue.”
