Aspiring young journalists have been invited to polish up their CVs and try to win a work placement at the BBC.
The new Young Reporters Scheme offers 12 weeks of unpaid work experience for people aged between 16 and 19. Those taking part will be working part-time with the BBC’s new media team on the Where I Live websites from July to September.
New media senior producer Claire McArthur says: “The young reporters will be responsible for creating a ‘Blast’ section on their local website, providing weekly updates on the arts within their area.
“We want to recruit people with a wide range of interests – you can like anything from hip-hop to bhangra; or ballet to Bollywood.
“The placement will involve on-the-job training and a mentor will be appointed to provide coaching.” Placements are available in Hull, London, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, Tees, Cornwall and Leeds. Application forms are available from Claire McArthur, senior producer, English Regions new media, BBC Birmingham, B5 7QQ. Closing date for entries is 30 May.
