The BBC this week launched a weblog written by editors across the news departments which aims to make the corporation’s editorial decision-making process more transparent.
Blog co-ordinator Giles Wilson, the editor of BBC News Online’s magazine section, said: “The kinds of things we’ll talk about are the processes that are involved behind the news. It’s not just about complaints — we’ll look at all the other aspects that go into making a programme, website or bulletin or whatever it is the editor is in charge of.”
The first week of the blog featured Ten O’Clock News editor Craig Oliver on losing the Charles Clarke interview scoop to Newsnight because of extended World Cup coverage, Kevin Marsh of the BBC college of journalism on the definition of “editor”, and World Service news programmes editor Liliane Landor on day-to-day coverage of Iraq.
