Cut: challenge to Nuts and Zoo
A 25-strong team of former Fleet Street and women’s magazine journalists is behind the long awaited men’s weekly, Cut which launched this week.
Cut – the third title to launch into the men’s weekly sector since January – has been in working progress at magazine giant H. Bauer for nearly two years. Former Men’s Health editor Simon Geller is heading the team whose expertise ranges from upmarket style title Arena to the Daily Sport.
Graeme Kerr, who has spent the past nine years working on newspapers in Japan, is deputy editor. Kerr returned to the UK recently, having been business editor on the launch of the Tokyo edition of the International Herald Tribune.
He has also worked on women’s titles Best and Me. Joel Miller, an exReuters and Fleet Street sports journalist, is sports editor; Andy Lea from the Daily Sport and Andy Dixon from Men’s Fitness are associate editors, Ed Barrett (ex Esquire and Arena) is news editor; Gina Finegan from Blush! magazine is reviews editor and Steven Whitchurch (ex Shine, Minx and Premiere) is art director.
Cut is billed as a weekly round-up for men featuring the latest topical news and entertainment, sports, reviews, TV, humour and gadgets.
It will go on sale every Thursday with a cover price of £1 and will be backed by a TV advertising campaign.
Cut is anticipated to have mass-market appeal and insiders say Bauer is hoping it will prove as big a hit as its women’s weeklies, Take a Break and That’s Life. Bauer has given no circulation guarantees for Cut.
