Bauer has suspended publication of its newest title, In The Know, after eight months on the newsstand, blaming poorer sales than expected.
The title, which launched last August, combined the true life staples of the women's weeklies with a current affairs agenda.
In The Know launched little more than three months after Emap's First – a similarly-pitched foray into the women's weekly market – and was Bauer's first launch in the sector in 11 years.
In a statement, Bauer said: "This concept, with topicality at its core, has failed to capture the interest shown during extensive research, which has translated into a poorer than expected sales level."
Edited by ex-Loaded and Chat editor Keith Kendrick, In the Know's initial print run of 900,000 was to be supported by a £10 million marketing investment. The magazine had a newsstand price of £1.
David Goodchild, managing director of H Bauer thanked the In The Know staff for their work. The editorial team has entered a period of consultation, with a number of redundancies likely.
Bauer also publishes real life market leader Take a Break, Bella and That's Life.
